7. Now You See Me

Now You See Me was released in 2013 and brought some epic magic on the screen. It was directed by Louis Leterrier and featured the legendary Morgan Freeman alongside Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Mark Ruffalo, Dave Franco, Michael Caine, Isla Fisher and Melanie Laurent.

The best part about the story is that it introduces a group of famous magicians as the masterminds behind heists. Not only do they steal money but also reward their audiences with the stolen money in a Robin Hood-esque way.

But at the same time, an FBI and an Interpol agent are onto this team of magicians and will do anything to put them behind bars. The film went on to be a huge success earning $351.7 million across the globe and won the People’s Choice Award and the Saturn Award for the Best Thriller Film. A sequel was released in 2016 that was a hit too.

6. Baby Driver

Baby Driver was released in 2017 and bought some rash driving, crimes and heists to the big screen. It was directed by Edgar Wright and featured Ansel Elgort in the lead role with Lily James playing his girlfriend.

Other notable names in the cast include Jamie Foxx, Jon Bernthal, Kevin Spacey, Eiza Gonzalez and Jon Hamm. The movie centers around a getaway driver who has tinnitus and drives nothing like you have ever seen before.

Why is the movie called Baby Driver though? Because the getaway driver goes by the name “Baby”. Baby finds himself in debt of a criminal mastermind who further pushes him into the world of crime.

For his Girlfriend’s and his own safety, Baby must find a way to escape the dangerous world of crime! The movie was a success given that Wright put in two decades trying to bring it to life. It went on to amass $226 million worldwide and got nominated for several awards.

It was also selected as the top film for 2017 by the National Board of Review.

5. 21

21 is a strange name for a movie, yet it is one of the most brilliant ones on this list. It was released in 2008 and was directed by Robert Luketic. The cast included Jim Sturgess, Kevin Spacey, Jacob Pitts, Kate Bosworth, Liza Lapira and Laurence Fishburne among others.

The main protagonist of the movie is Ben Campbell who dazzles his professor Micky Rosa in class and earns himself a spot on Rosa’s Blackjack team with other students. This team learns to count cards and use their skill to go and win games at Casinos.

But at the same time, they are being chased by the head of security at the casinos and tensions unfurl in the group. The story sounds too good to be true but it actually is not.

It is based on the actual story of the MIT Blackjack Team and went on to earn over $150 million worldwide.

However, the film also incited a huge racism controversy given the fact that most characters in the actuality were Asian-Americans.

4. Uncut Gems

If there is one name for quality content in the modern era, it is Netflix. Uncut Gems was brought to the world by Netflix in 2019.

It was directed by Josh Safdie and Benny Safdie. Among others in the cast are Adam Sandler, Julia Fox, Idina Menzal, Lakeith Stanfield and Kevin Garnett.

The movie centers around Howard Ratner, who runs a jewelry store and loves to gamble. He somehow finds himself in debt and in pursuit of an Opal that he must retrieve. As his family life runs through turmoil and Howard gets into more and more gambling, the movie involves plenty of shooting and murders too.

The movie went on to earn $50 million at Box Office and earned several awards including the National Board of Review awards for Best Actor, Best Original Screenplay and Top Ten Films. At the same time, it was nominated for a plethora of other awards. This is Movies Like Money Heist you can’t ignore at all.

3. Catch Me If You Can

Catch Me If You Can is a film for all generations. It was released in 2002 and was directed by Steven Spielberg. The movie is based on a true story of Frank Abagnale and features Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, Martin Sheen, Nathalie Baye and Christopher Walken among others.

Frank is an extremely confident and smart teenager who gets caught between his parents divorce and his father’s tax problems. He runs away from home and turns all his brilliance to scams. But Carl Hanratty from the FBI keeps tracking Frank trying to catch him one day.

Paired up, DiCaprio and Hank make for a great duo on screen and lead the film to become a box-office hit and a classic. It earned $352 million worldwide and became a part of DiCaprio’s journey to his rise as a star.

2. Inside Man

Inside Man was released in 2006 and is one of the best heist films in history. It was directed by Spike Lee and the cast includes

Clive Owen, Denzel Washington, Chiwetel Ejilofer, Jodie Foster, Christopher Plummer and Willem Dafoe among others. This movie is perhaps the most like Money Heist among all on this list and it probably gave plenty of ideas to the makers of Money Heist.

For instance, making the hostages wear the same clothes, intercepting surveillance mics that come in with food and so on. But most of all, the fact that the heist is based on ulterior motives rather than just money is the most important idea in the movie.

The film grossed $95 million worldwide and over $184 million in North America alone. The movie got mixed reviews but, without a doubt, is still one of the best heist movies ever produced and similar to Movies Like Money Heist in more ways than you’d expect.

1. Inception

You have most probably already heard of Inception given the fame that the film has garnered over the years. The movie was released in 2010 and directed by the infamous Christopher Nolan. The cast of the film includes none other than Leonardo DiCaprio alongside Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Ken Watanabe, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Michael Caine and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

The movie takes the idea of a heist to another level by focusing on people’s subconscious rather than just money. The protagonist is tasked with planting an idea into another person’s brain by using his ability to infiltrate into people’s subconscious.

But along the way, he must deal with plenty of troubles and adventures that have never been seen on the screen before. Given the brilliant story, acting, screenplay and graphics, the movie was able to earn over $800 million at Box Office! It also won several awards, which include the Bradbury Award for best dramatic production and the Hugo Award for best dramatic presentation.
